Living Long and Well

Posted on April 8, 2023April 8, 2023 by Carl Barney

How can we live longer? How can we live a flourishing and rewarding life?

First, one has to want to live long and well. One needs to have a supporting, life-loving philosophy, which is Objectivism.

Second, I believe one needs a psychological outlook that involves strong purposes and values, and the intention to live a rich and rewarding life.

Of course, there is more to it than that. And that’s where Dr. Peter Attia’s new book, The Science and Art of Longevity, comes in. I’m grateful to have been part of Dr. Attia’s longevity practice over the last three years. During that time, I have achieved “perfect” blood test results and improved body metrics, with body fat mass reduced from 26.2 to 20.2 lbs. and percent of body fat reduced from 13.9 to 10.8%. Meanwhile my weight has stayed the same and my skeletal muscle mass has increased from 91.1 to 94.4… an extra 3 pounds of muscle!

I recommend Dr. Attia’s book, Outlive. Click here to read a review of the book by Matthew Rees, who is WSJ’s Editor of Food and Health Facts and a Senior Fellow at Dartmouth’s top school of business.

I recommend watching a John Jaquish interview video on YT and reading his book on the topic of variable resistance training, intermittent fasting, and carnivore dieting.

Thank you. I second your recommendation of Dr. Attia’s book. There are some things outside of our control, but there is a lot we can do to improve or maintain health. The book covers the what we can do.

My favorite Ayn Rand quote is: “to hold an unchanging youth, is to have at the end, the vision with which one started.”
She told us not to “let it go”.
I haven’t at 79; and looks like YOUR principal values, and the vision for “living life on earth” driving them, will be there at the end!
    Congratulations!
