The Colorado Court of Appeals threw out Judge Ross Buchanan’s opinion against CollegeAmerica and, in an unprecedented action, removed him from the case. See the press release here.
There is a political campaign (which began with the Obama administration) to cripple and close private for-profit career colleges and universities. With coordinated attacks originating from Senators Elizabeth Warren and Dick Durbin, the Department of Education, leftist Attorneys General, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the IRS, and other departments of the United States government, thousands of colleges and universities have been crippled or closed.
The US Department of Education and Assistant AG Libby DeBlasio Webster attempted for the last 10 years to close down my company, Center for Excellence in Higher Education, which had colleges under the names of CollegeAmerica, Independence University, and Stevens-Henager College (established in 1891). We warded off their attacks for years, but the most recent coordinated assault was just too much and we were not able to withstand it. The Colorado Court of Appeals decision, although somewhat comforting, came too late to be helpful.
I will share more about this tragic story over the next few weeks.
We proceeded you by a few years in this tragedy. Being much smaller, we were unable to withstand Obama’s DOE onslaught for as long.
