Lisa VanDamme (of VanDamme Academy, and who I consider the poet laureate of Objectivism) and her husband Chad Morris (a personal trainer extraordinaire) came to dinner at my home with close friends, Craig Biddle, and his wife, Sarah. There’s richness in these relationships.
Lisa recommended a wonderful movie called Warrior starring, among others, Nick Nolte. The movie has surprising twists and turns, an engaging story, and a wonderful ending in which pretty much everybody gets what they need. Watch it and enjoy.
I want to highlight Lisa’s fabulous service called Read With Me, wherein she narrates a series of great novels. She reads with calm passion, and is clear and articulate. On her recommendation, I’m currently reading a Victor Hugo novella called Bug-Jargal, which is turning out to be a gripping and exciting story of great heroism.
Hugo’s letter regarding the execution of John Brown is simply incredible. At the end of Lisa’s reading of it, I was amazed that any man could ever have written such a letter. I immediately listened to Lisa read it a second time.
These three wonderful treats (Warrior, Bug-Jargal, and Hugo’s letter regarding the execution of John Brown) will add to your store of happiness. I encourage you to make time for all of them.
