Riots, Looting, Mayhem, and Destruction

Posted on June 12, 2020April 14, 2022 by Carl Barney

“Things fall apart; the center cannot hold. Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world.”

W.B. Yeats wrote those lines in the bleak aftermath of World War I—they resonate today.

About 140 cities have been subject to riots, looting, and wanton destruction. Many are calling for police forces to be abolished or defunded.

What is going on? What is behind this? I believe we are seeing the politics of violence and destruction. But the violence and destruction didn’t spring from nowhere. Two brilliant writings explain what’s happening, and I recommend them to you: “A Picture Is Not an Argument” by Leonard Peikoff and “Racism” by Ayn Rand.
