Victims of the Virus—or of Sacrifice?

Posted on May 14, 2020April 14, 2022 by Carl Barney

Young people are constantly told to go to college and study hard, and that they’ll get a good, high-paying job if they do. Someone owes these young people an apology. They are faced with the worst job market ever, competing with 33 million unemployed (and counting).

All this from a virus that young people statistically have a miniscule chance of dying from—or of catching at all. Their lives are being sacrificed to save the lives of the old and infirm. It would be unconscionable to ask older people to sacrifice their lives for the younger people. Neither group should be sacrificing for the other. Down with all sacrifice!

The continued lockdowns are evidence that many politicians and public health officials flunked Economics 101. The apology needs to come from them.
